Defecation Dyssynergia is a type of pelvic floor dysfunction where there is a problem with the coordination of muscles used for bowel movements. Normally, during defecation, the pelvic floor muscles and anal sphincter relax while the abdominal muscles contract to allow stool to pass. In dyssynergia, this coordination is disrupted — muscles may contract instead of relaxing, making it difficult to pass stool.
